Last October 18th,2018 took place the SABANA project’s workshop on microalgae related projects in the Marine Scientific Park of the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canarias (Spain).
SABANA (Sustainable Algae Biorefinery For Agriculture and Aquaculture) organized this networking event to present the project and invited some other projects from H2020. The aim of this event was to create cooperation between the different EU projects related to wastewater treatment, algae production, biomass, and nutrients recovery.
In this context, Water2REturn was presented by Marco de la Feld from UECBV, who explained the project and showed the approach of the solution that proposes. All participants showed their interest and found different opportunities for cooperation, especially SABANA and SALTGAE project.
Furthermore, not only H2020 projects were presented, but also LIFE and Interreg projects:
- H2020-SABANA
- H2020-Water2REturn
- Interreg-MAC-ISLANDAP
- Interreg-MAC-BIOBLUE
- Interreg-MAC-REBECA
- LIFE-BAQUA
- H2020-SALTGAE
Besides, two additional regional entities related to the microalgae sector also were presented in the event, concretely:
- ALGALIMENTO, an industrial microalgae producer.
- BIOASIS GC, the Platform of Excellence in Blue Biotechnology and Aquaculture.
The main results of this workshop have been the creation of a communication channel to follow step by step the possible common activities between a well-defined group of projects, the increase of the stakeholder’s involvement and the study of specific market needs.
At the end of the event, a visit to the IU-EcoAqua facilities and ITC facilities was organized.
The cooperation and the networking held during this event have been important for Water2REturn development, as it has been a good opportunity to share results and to increase the project visibility at market level. This kind of meetings with other H2020 projects brings an added value to Water2REturn and contributes to increase the Water2REturn community and to better understand the market needs.
