The 13th International Chemical and Biological Engineering Conference (CHEMPOR 2018), organized by the University of Aveiro and Ordem dos Engenheiros (the Portuguese Engineers Association), was held in Aveiro - Portugal, from the 2nd to the 4th of October, 2018.

‪CHEMPOR has been regularly organized in Portugal since 1975. This series of conferences is a forum for discussion of recent developments and future directions in different areas of chemical engineering, materials science and engineering, biotechnology and biological engineering. Traditionally, CHEMPOR is a dynamic gathering of scientists and professionals from Industry and Academia, and has the institutional sponsorship of the Portuguese Chemical Society and the Portuguese Society of Biotechnology. The general topics for CHEMPOR 2018 were:

  • Biological Engineering and Biotechnology
  • Biorefinery and Sustainability
  • Reaction and Separation Processes
  • Energy and Environment
  • Innovative Materials and Applications
  • Modeling, Synthesis and Integration of Chemical Processes
  • Multiscale and Multidisciplinary Engineering Education.

Around 250 delegates had the chance to meet Water2Return project and its main goals. Isabel Martin, from CENTA team, made an oral presentation in the session dedicated to “Biological Engineering and Biotechnology”. The presentation was entitled Water2Return: towards the total recovery of nutrients from the sewage water in a slaughterhouse, and made a general review of Water2Return main objectives, the work plan and the participants. Moreover, a short article has been published in the extended abstract Conference’s book (ISBN pending).
